SUMMARYZING what you’ve understand
Monday and were down to our last topic. Finals is commning and we all really felt the stress of studying, finishing all the requirements. Miss Barros gave us an activity and we’ll group ourself into three. Of course my group mates would be my seatmates Anna and Marianne.
When we all have our respective group mates, Miss Barros then explain what the activity is all about. So she gave each group a two sheets of bond paper. We looked at it and we saw boxes that were labeled on the horizontal line theorist, structure of personality, growth or development, abnormality, change/therapy. On the vertical line labeled all the name of the theorist that we have tackled. 
We thought it would be easy for us to list down and label each topic that we have learned. But as we start the activity it became harder for us to list down on the box what should be list down. We tried our best to correctly put the labels right to where it should really be put.
When all of us were already finished at the activity we started checking if all that we put in the box was correct. At first the things that we labeled on the box was correct. But as we go further we know that it was wrong already. Sometimes we labeled the wrong wrods on the wrong box but it was supposed to be on the other box.

We thought it would be easy for us to list down and label each topic that we have learned. But as we start the activity it became harder for us to list down on the box what should be list down. We tried our best to correctly put the labels right to where it should really be put.

It's challenging because you can see the other groups are striving and you are also motivated to do your best. I saw my group as a basketball team although we are only three. :)
George kelly's personal structure
George Kelly's main concern was that the theory of personality was very broad or in simple terms loosely defined and it's very difficult to observe and to examine because as he quoted doctors are mainly concerned with the diagnosis of the patient rather than the patient itself. Which I believe is a fact because
we have our own point of views because that's how we see it our way.
In his example which was that if you took your problems to a freudian analyst then he'd interpret it in freudian terms and so on and so forth. Another concern that he focuses on is the observer's effect or observer's bias. As to what i've said earlier we have our own opinions based on how we see them and how we analyze them carefully. Somehow though we see obstacles as negative aspects it could also be a good strategy depends on how we analyze it carefully to make it into a positive strategy.
For Kelly, he wanted to develop a theory and an investigative technique which would remove the influence of the observer's frame of reference what was observed.

REAL SELF and IDEAL SELF

Carl Rogers is our topic for the day.
When he started out , hewas like Freud, working with troubled people. Sensing the kind of environment some people had gave Rogers insight into what was stopping or holding them from reaching their full potential. its like someone is pulling them or holding them about their decissions that would be best for them. All persons start out in life with possitive feeling about themselves, but these feelings may continually be eroded by significant persons like parents, teachers, sibling, and friends in their reflective worlds.
It reminds me of my mother and my eldest brother. they always hlod me back in deciding on my own because maybe they think that it is not best for me. The best example that really struck and bothers me until now is when I’m in high school I like joining in varsity club because I love playing sports and it is my passion. It gives me life and energizes me. But instead of supporting me and give me wisdom they say that I’m not suppose to pay attention in nonsense things. I should exert effort more effort in studies. I do believe them that studies should be in my first priority when I’m in school. At then I didn’t join the badminton varsity team in my school.
But still, parents are still parents. I still has to obey them. :)
IS IT REALLY ME??.....

Friday, we had an invited guest, a former student of Miss Barros. When he entered the room I immediately felt his aura. Power within him that he immediately senses the crowd or our class. He catches our attention right away because maybe others felt what I also felt about him. He has the look that when he sees you in the eye, it’s like he sees the whole you. He then talks about Enneagram, it came from the religion of Muslim. Many psychologist has already studied Enneagram namely, Ouspensky a Russian philosopher, Oscar Icharo he named the 9 different types, Claudio Naranjo DSM personality theory he attached the 7 capital sins in Enneagram, example is pride. Last a female psychologist Helen Palmer. She used application Enneagram for corporation. 

Let me give you a brief meaning of Enneagram, a personality system which divides the entire human personality into 9 tendencies. A rich and practical study of personal growth based on ancient things of mysterious origins. He leaved us for 15mins because we still have to check our Enneagram test. When he came back he asked us to group by assigning us which is our group member. As he continuous reveling our types of personality in the Enneagram meaning, it was our groups turn to reveal our type of personality. We are type 7, mental intelligence. Seven’s are optimistic thrill seekers that see life as an adventure. This consistent zest for life can be inspiring. But one things lose their fun seven’s are no longer interested, many projects go unfinished. Seven’s fear being overwhelmed by life struggles. It was 80-20that I believe about our result. I just smiled but still I have a deep thought that it was correct.

I then remember that I also asked my special someone to also take the Enneagram test by the website Miss Barros gave us at www.similarminds.com. The type that he got was type two, saying that Two’s are uniquely gifted at turning in on the feeling of others. This makes them great networkers. But their closeness to other people can compromise their own needs. Two charities is really a projection of how they want others to care for them.
I have learned that Enneagram was one of the coolest practical tool for self awareness. :)

MEN AND WOMEN equal or not equal?
Karen Horney was the first feminist psychology in the field of psychology in the ages of Sigmund Freud. She said that men and women have instinct biological constitutions that have to be understood by their own terms.
Women have a big difference between men. Of course that is very obvious, their difference in physical and mental and most of all emotional has a big factor in their society. Women should stay at home, take care of the children, and do all the house hold chores. While the men should work outside, feed their family and is the boss or head in a family. I know for that in a fact but then Karen Horney did not totally agree about the status in their society back in their age. So she really studied and did some research about men and women big difference.
Perhaps the most important contribution Karen Horney made to psychodynamic thought was her disagreements with Freud's view of women. Horney was never a student of Freud, but did study his work and eventually taught psychoanalysis at both the Berlin and New York Psychoanalytic Institu
te. After her insistence that Freud's view of the inherent difference between males and females, she agreed to leave the institute and form her own school known as the American Institute for Psychoanalysis. In many ways, Horney was well ahead of her time and although she died before the feminist movement took hold, she was perhaps the theorist who changed the way psychology looked at gender differences. She countered Freud's concept of penis envy with what she called womb envy, or man's envy of woman's ability to bear children. She argued that men compensate for this inability by striving for achievement and success in other realms.
She also disagreed with Freud's belief that males and females were born with inherent differences in their personality. Rather than citing biological differences, she argued for a societal and cultural explanation. In her view, men and women were equal outside of the cultural restrictions often placed on being female. These views, while not well accepted at the time, were used years after her death to help promote gender equality.
Neurosis and Relationships
Horney was also known for her study of neurotic personality. She defined neurosis as a maladaptive and counterproductive way of dealing with relationships. These people are unhappy and desperately seek out relationships in order to feel good abut themselves. Their way of securing these relationships include projections of their own insecurity and neediness which eventually drives others away.
She identified three ways of dealing with the world that are formed by an upbringing in a neurotic family: Moving toward People, Moving against People, and Moving Away From People.
Along with our lesson Miss Barros share us some of her interesting stories regarding her husband. Their petty quarrels that she really won’t miss arguing with his husband. Their differences and their status of relation and how they will deal with their problems equally. She is somewhat with my mom. My mom always argues with my dad when I was still a child but now. They are somewhat divorce but not really in papers, maybe in their own way of showing their love and affection. In other words break-up in marriage. But it's okay. Me and my sibling do undersatand what they are and what our family is going through...

Ms. Barros gave us a personality test. 50 item with A & B multiple choices. The instruction was rate each question depends on what you feel about the question. 5 being the highest and 1 being the lowest. Every number must be equal to 5. Their will be no 2.5 score for each number.
We started answering the question and it really takes us time in deciding what scores should fit in the question. When we tally down our scores by its number we total it and what comes out in my E was 23 while my I was only 17. This means that on of my personality was I am an extravert person.
The second pairs are S & N. Sensing and intuiting my score for sensing was 15 only while in my intuiting was 25. This means that I’m a type of intuiting person.
The third pairs are T & F. Thinking and feeling type of person. My score in thinking was 13, very low but in my feeling type was 27.
Second to the last pairs are P and J. Perception and judging types of person. My score for perception was 29 higher the last three’s. while my judging score was only 11. Lowest among the last three’s.

When Ms. Barros gave us the quiz the question that was assign for me to answer was give four characteristics about introvert personality. I thought they way I read it was extravert! I really did it well but then the instruction was kind confusing to me. I was an extravert person so I thought it was extravert was for me to give the four characteristics. I got a zero score. Disappointing but I know it was my fault. But then again, “I thought”…

Film showing
Miss Barros promised us that this Friday their will be no lectures instead we will be watching a movie. I was thankful because their will be no lecture. :D
She brings out a DVD titled The Unsaid. In the title itself has catch my attention. I was already thinking about words, expression, feelings, thoughts, and gestures were left unsaid. While watching the movie their many things that bother my mind because before Miss Barros left us she said that here are some cases that psychologist are handling. By that I was imagining what those cases are. I know for a fact that psychologist gives counseling, listens to their patients problems, helping or guiding patients on how to solve their problems by their own decisions. So, let me give you a brief background about the movie “The Unsaid”.

While watching the movie their many things that bother my mind because before Miss Barros left us she said that here are some cases that psychologist are handling. By that I was imagining what those cases are. I know for a fact that psychologist gives counseling, listens to their patients problems, helping or guiding patients on how to solve their problems by their own decisions. So, let me give you a brief background about the movie “The Unsaid”.
As Hunter comes out of his academic ‘retirement’ (he used to be a practising psychologist) to treat a psychotic teenager called Tommy (Vincent Kartheiser). Tommy is all control, at any rate on the surface. But, in reality, his life has been warped, possibly for ever, by an abusive parent. The case is an especially difficult one for Hunter, because what he had retreated from into academic life was a trauma of his own, caused by the suicide of his teenage son (a scene frighteningly depicted in the movie, as Hunter breaks into his garage to find his son’s body).
“It’s about a father seeking redemption for the loss of one son through another boy,” suggests Garcia of the character he plays. “Here’s a man who is feeling a huge tragedy in his life and is guilt-ridden because of that. The journey for him is to seek some sort of redemption for what he believes he was responsible for - in this case, the suicide of his son.
I was terrified about the movie. We were all shouting and shocked about what the antagonist and protagonist are doing. We wished that we where there to help change the settings so that it will end up happily ever after. We didn’t mean to disturb the other class because they were disturbed by our noise.

This scene is one of my favorite. It was at the last scene when the psychologist visits his patient and playing a ball with him but still the patient says that I am not your son because what Tom was usually doing is what Kyle was also usually does.
As I go home I was thinking if AB psychology is the course that I deserve. I was bothered, what if I wasn’t be able to fulfill my duty as a clinical psychologist? What if I failed in helping my patients about their personal problems and issues? I hope not. But I still have faith in my own abilities that I will make a name in the field in psychology. And will be able to help more people as much as I can.

Psychiatrist who founded the psychoanalytic school of psychology. Freud is best known for his theories of the unconscious mind and the defense mechanism of repression. He is also well-known for his redefinition of sexual desire as the primary motivational energy of human life which is directed toward a wide variety of objects, as well as his therapeutic techniques, including his theory of transference in the therapeutic relationship and the presumed value of dreams as sources of insight into unconscious desires.
Sigmund Freud was our topic last semester in general psychology but honestly I didn’t understand the topic with our professor. I’m not going to mention the professor because he is greatly respected by other professors and my co-students. It was like some self study at that time. And know I thought that it would still be the same thing. But it’s really different this time. She really got our attention at our first topic. She continued to the Levels of awareness of Freud where she shows us the picture of an iceberg. Three levels of awareness, first level is conscious (currently thinking about), 2nd level is subconscious (not presently aware of) and last the 3rd level unconscious (even if we want to but we can’t bring it on the conscious level. Ms. Barros said that some of the negative forces are buried in the unconscious level. Bad experiences or issues from childhood that we are presently aware of. But if we want to bring it to the conscious level it may take time or we may have difficulty in remembering it.
Then she talked about the ID, superego and ego. I was very interested at this topic. When Miss gave us a seatwork, we group into three’s and think of a situation about the five different conflicts between the ID, ego and superego. I suddenly gave out many situations based on personal experiences and experiences of my other friends. They teased me that I am expert in giving out examples. I just thought it was a somewhat a compliment. :)
At the end of the day I wonder what my negative forces are. I wonder if I have issues in my life. Issues that will affect my personality while growing someday.

Firts Day.. Firts Impression..

April 8, 2008 Tuesday afternoon
at MMJ305 third floor
1:30 pm
I was in a hurry because it was already 1:35pm and I thought that I was late for 5mins. Once I entered the lobby I hurriedly ran upstairs to the third floor. When I was about to turn left I pass by to the teacher whom was very familiar look to me. I always saw her in the ADSA and was always been an emcee or was always the one who give the first speech in a forum specially in first day of the semester.
When I reached the third floor I saw group of students talking and standing outside of the mmj305. I was lucky that are they still outside of the classroom it means that our professor is not yet there. I take a deep breath and prepare myself before our professor come. I wonder that there are two girls looking at me coming from the next room mmj307. When I take a closer look it was Anna and Marianne my two block mates in CWTS 1 last sem. It gives me another smile on my face because I don’t have to worry in and having a company or adjusting in my new set of block mates this summer because I already knew them .

When we got inside the room we prefer sitting at the back. I was surprised when she came in because the professor that I had passed by a while ago while running to the third floor was the professor in my summer subject which is PY101 Theories of Personalities. She introduced her self as Mrs. Barros Norminda and every one of us had a chance to introduce themself in the class.
As she was giving us an overview of the subject was all about suddenly my friend just texted me if i will still go to the petron at treats ( where we usually meet spend atleast 2-3hrs before going home) after class. When I was just about to reply the message she suddenly got irritated because she really dont want her students using their cellphone during her class hours. She confiscated my phone and gave me a first warning.
I was really scared at that moment because I could see her eyes how she looked at me. I know it was really my fault at that time. When she was about to say the sermon all I can do is pay attention to what she’s saying. What struck me most of all that she said was “its good thing to know that you are not afraid to me” because of what I’ve done. She have to confiscate my cell phone because its her job to teach a lesson to students and follow the rules. She told me to pick it up around 5pm at the ADSA building and she have to give me a violation report.
It was not really a good impression especially at first day. I had mixed emotions at that day. Well it’s still okay but still not also fine. Some people say that first impression last. I hope not.
